#14 I RAN MY FIRST 45km ULTRA MARATHON IN WILD BIG 5 TERRITORY - THE TIMBAVATI TRAVERSE 2021

Dear Reader,

As they say, better late than never!

The Timbavati Traverse took place on 16 September 2021 and it was a huge success! Together we were able to raise a grand total of R426 000 whilst running 45km through pristine untouched wilderness in aid of conservation in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve (TPNR).

For some perspective, the the TPNR is a 53 000ha reserve situated between the Kruger National Park (KPNR) in the east, the Umbabat Private Nature Reserve and the Klaserie in the north, and then Thornybush Private Nature Reserve in the west.

Naturally occurring white lions were first discovered in the Timbavati in the mid-1970’s and today they continue to call the reserve home. There are no fences between the KPNR and the TPNR, allowing game to move freely between reserves.

The TPNR is focused on responsible tourism. All tourism profits are reinvested back into the management of the reserve to ensure that both wildlife and local communities thrive in unison.

I managed to put together some footage from the experience into my first Youtube video which can be viewed below. If you enjoy it, please like and subscribe!

For a more professional production, have a look at the official after movie put together by Kyle White.

The upcoming 2022 edition is set to take place on 9 July and provides both the opportunities to run 45km or walk 21km through untouched African wilderness.

I can’t recommend this experience enough if you are looking for a unique way to experience Africa on foot whilst contributing to conservation efforts in the TPNR.

A big thank you goes out to all the event sponsors, especially Kings Camp, as well as the other runners for making this experience so special.

If you’re looking for a luxury safari experience in the Timbavati, Kings Camp reflects the charm and romance of a bygone era in a pristine corner of unspoilt Africa. It really is a world-class luxury safari experience.
